Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a sacred limestone hill that has a progression of caverns and cavern sanctuaries in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Malay word Batu, signifying 'rock'. The slope was initially known as Kapal Tanggang from the legend of Si Tanggang. The town close by is named after the Batu Caves limestone development. You can find here one of the most famous Hindu shrines, and the cave is well-known for the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Being dedicated to Lord Murugan, Batu Caves are known as 10th Caves for Lord Murugan. Climb 272 steps to the caves and then go to the top of the caves to discover three large limestone caves and small caves having Hindu statues and art.
