Must See And Do in Nepal

Most Popular Places and Activities to Explore Nepal

Kathmandu

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal, considered for several centuries to be one of the three royal cities within the region apart from Bhaktapur and Patan. The largest square in the city is the Durbar square, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The square contains numerous marvellous

architectural structures such as monuments, and temples that captivate visitors. Despite the heavy damage caused to the Durbar square by a disastrous earthquake in Nepal in 2015, the square remains a wonderful place to travel to.

Bhaktapur

Located on the ancient trade route to Tibet, Bhaktapur is the third royal city of Nepal on the outskirts of Kathmandu. The 55 Windows Palace, and Nyatapola Temple are remnants of the rich history of Bhaktapur, which are appreciated till this day by travellers.

Annapurna Region

The Annapurna Region is the perfect destination for trekking enthusiasts in Nepal. The Annapurna circuit, which wraps around the Annapurna Mountain takes 21 days to finish, making it an exciting challenge for people blessed with enough time. The infrastructure along these trails is world class and there are plenty of seating arrangements and shops providing food along the way.

Chitwan National Park

Wildlife viewing in Nepal peaks at the Chitwan National Park, which successfully creates a safari like feel. Unlike most of the other areas within Nepal, Chitwan National Park is renowned for its tropical monsoon climate. Don’t forget your binoculars when you try to spot exotic one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers, sloth bears, and freshwater dolphins within the river. Don’t forget to take tours from the lodges on elephants to observe other wildlife in proximity. Count how many of the 400 distinct bird species you can spot during your travels to the Chitwan National Park.

Langtang Region

The Langtang region of Nepal is another location perfect for hiking, particularly for fans of scenic mountains, and luscious rhododendron forests. Despite being near Kathmandu, the Langtang region is relatively barren which makes it ideal for travellers that wish to avoid large crowds. Numerous guesthouses and food shops are spread out across the hiking trail.

Mount Everest

A holiday to Nepal feels incomplete without a trek to Everest Base Camp. While professional mountaineers continue to attempt to trek Mount Everest, rookies have the option of trekking to base camp just for a glimpse of the famous Mount Everest Peak. Don’t be shy from pulling out your cameras and capturing your journey through the rock expanses of the mountain that very few conquered. It is noteworthy that all trekkers are required to be accompanied by a guide, who can be hired from a Nepalese or Western firm.

Lumbini

Situated 250 kms away from the capital city Kathmandu, Lumbini is celebrated as the birthplace of Buddha, a central figure for Buddhists worldwide. Hence, Lumbini is visited on an annual basis by certain Buddhist pilgrims. This pilgrimage town established itself as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites due to its historic importance.

White Water Rafting

Due to its rivers and mountains, Nepal is a brilliant place for white water rafting. For a one-day rafting experience, try the Trisuli Rafting Day Trip from Kathmandu which is available throughout the year. If you trust your rafting skills and wish to spend more time in the water, give the Bhote Koshi River Rafting Trip a shot. Not only is the rafting trip 25 kilometres long, but it also involves camping for one night with meals included within initial booking expenses.

Best time to travel to Nepal

The best time to visit Nepal depends on the purpose of visiting the country. October, November, and December are the most popular and ideal months for

visitors wishing to explore the towering mountains and hills of the country, as they are relatively warm and dry, with the clear blue skies making travelling more enjoyable. On the other hand, Spring is the next most popular time for travelling to Nepal, as the blossoming rhododendron forests in the highlands are a sight to behold, and wildlife watching at Bardia National Park and Chitwan National Park becomes enjoyable as tigers, one-horned rhinos, and other rare animal species become easier to find.
