To date, Zanzibar remains an enigma in the Indian Ocean with its long history of slave trade, war and strife, spice and coconut plantations and a predominantly Islamic culture and religion; and life continues as it always has, still governed by the ocean and its winds, little, almost not at all changed over two centuries and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
